Re-Reps summon IGP over alleged misappropriation of N7.2bn

The story making the round, which was published by METRO, an online medium, about the summoning of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris by the House of Representative over alleged diversion of N7.2 billion by the Nigeria Police, has the potentials of creating wrong impressions, making it necessary to clarify the situation.

Certainly, contacts were awarded by the Nigeria Police under the previous regime which have not been properly executed. IGP Ibrahim Idris has been worried by this development, and has since taken steps to get to the roots of the matter. A panel has since been constituted to investigate the contracts. Preliminary reports have revealed a worrisome involvement of about 13 companies given contracts to the tune of about N18 billion. These contracts have not been discharged. The IGP is involving the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to unveil the human faces behind these companies in order to bring them to book.

It is really imperative to disclose that IGP Ibrahim Idris was not privy to the award of those contracts, and has, in fact, not awarded any contract for any rehabilitation or reconstruction whatsoever. In fact, he has not gotten up to a billion naira since he came into office.

While the IGP is concluding the report to present before the House of Representative, he is taking all possible measures to ensure that anyone involved in any diversion of Police money is made to face the law.  While he is not part of the deal, he has the duty to unravel the rot. While he is ready to meet the honourable legislators, he is preparing to make the meeting worthy of their time.- Bala Ibrahim wrote
