Sultan, Emir Kano, Etsu Nupe, Others Grace IGP's Reception In Sokoto



Sokoto went agog as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad- Abubakar 111, Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido-Sanusi, Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isah Mustapha -Agwai 1 were among hundreds of personalities who graced the reception organised in honour of the IGP Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris by the Old Boys' Association of Government Technical College, Farfaru in Sokoto on Saturday.



Sultan was represented by the Magajin Rafi Sokoto, Alhaji Rilwanu Bello, while the Emir of Kano was represented by District Head of Gwarzo, Alhaji Kabiru Bayero, as well as Emirs of Awe and Adudu in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed and Alhaji Abdullahi Umar,respectively.

Others who attended the occasion include, Deputy Gov. of Niger State, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed-Ketso who represented the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello, as well as representatives of the Governor’s of Sokoto, Dr Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, Commissioner for Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, that of Zamfara State Governor, Amb Bala Mairiga, as well as that of the Kebbi State Governor.

Speaking at the reception, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun- Idris, urged that Nigeria's education system should focus on Science and Technology.

The reception was organised by the Government Technical College, Farfaru-Sokoto, Old Boys Association, alongside five other alumni of the school.

Idris said:'' The world is changing, evolving into a world of Science and Technology.

'' Therefore, Nigeria cannot, but vigorously pursue the educational system that places emphasis on Science and Technology.

'' The nation's policy makers, especially those responsible for fashioning the educational system should begin to pay attention to a school system that places premium on academics, as much as it does on the moral and ethical development of our youths.''

The IGP further called for concerted efforts towards educating the children to become disciplined and productive in their adulthood.

'' The educational system can be made a launching pad for breeding good, disciplined, God fearing and productive citizens.

''They will be citizens who are averse to the life of drug abuse and addiction, with its attendant crime and criminality in the society”, Idris, added.

The police boss urged old boys to contribute their widow's mite to uplift the standard of the school.

In his remarks, Sultan of Sokoto who commended the organizers for a successful ceremony, urged all and sundry to always support alma maters.

According to him, “we should not forget our foundation, as anything you become in life it is the foundation that established it, and urged that people should endeavour to assist their old school to move education forward”.

It will be recalled that the IGP graduated from the school in 1977 in the defunct North western state,with headquarters in Sokoto.
