The Inspector-General of Police,  Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris, has advised youths to desist from acts capable of jeopardising their future.

Idris made the remark recently in Abuja at the youth forum organised by Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA).

POWA organised the forum to teach children of police officers how to acquire relevant skills that would aid them to be self reliant and self sufficient in future

He said the contributions of the youths are critical to the development of Nigeria and urged them to imbibe the culture of hard work and commitment to whatever field of endeavour they chose to embark on.

“You have to work hard today for the betterment of your tomorrow; stay away from drug abuse.

“You must have the vision of all you want to acheve tomorrow today,“he said.

On the welfare of personnel of the force, Idris said the management of the police was doing all it could to provide houses for the rank and file.

“The force is doing everything possible to ensure that personnel especially the rank and file have houses of their own before retirement,“he said.

Speaking earlier, the national President of POWA, Mrs Asma’u Idris, said that the youths, who constituted a larger segment of the country’s population needed attention.

“With this large population of young people, the need for their education, health, welfare and good moral values have to be taken into consideration,“she said.

She appealed to other stakeholders to be involved in youth empowerment as the government could not do it alone.

The president said the forum was organised to discover `unseen attributes’ in the youths and prepare them for the future.

“We organised this forum to bring out the hidden talents in our youths in the barracks,“she said.

She charged the youths to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force which are integrity and discipline.

“You should shun any form of social vices; be dedicated to your studies and support your parents,“she said.

The programme witnessed talks on entrepreneurship and free medical screening for hepatitis, HIV, blood sugar and vaccination against common diseases.
