The Nation's no 1 supercop, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris is to investigate the allegations of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue that Nasarawa state is harbouring a Militia camped in Tunga, Awe LGA of the state.
IGP Idris stated this during his interactive forum with various stakeholders in Lafia, Nasarawa state. The forum was aimed at finding a lasting solution to the lingering crises between fulani Herdsmen and communities in Benue and Nasarawa state.
It will be recalled that the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom made those allegations when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja and also during the stakeholders meeting arranged by the IGP in Makurdi.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State described as unfortunate the accusation by his Benue State counterpart Samuel Ortom that Nasarawa was harbouring the militia that recently caused mayhem in Benue state.
Al-Makura said he was deeply shocked by the speculation, adding that it is an unfair comment coming from a state governor. He however said the onus of proof lies on the person that alleged, and urged the IGP to look into the issue.
Al-Makura noted that his concern was to ensure security of the people that are in distress at the border lines and provide the necessary assistance and not to join issues with a colleague.
Besides, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai, also described as worrisome the statement of the Benue State governor.
