FIGHT AGAINST CRIME: IGP COMMISSIONED COBWEB INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM

*We will link all police command to the platform once funds are available


The Inspector General of Police (IGP),  Ibrahim  Idris, has assured the people of Kano state that the recently commissioned COBWEB intelligence platform at the Kano State Police Command will boost the fight against crime detection and its prevention mechanism in the state.


Performing the inauguration yesterday in Kano, IGP Idris said the intelligence platform would cover states in the North Western parts of the country.


He said the intelligence platform was part of his efforts in repositioning the Police Force and was poised to reposition the Force  for enhanced and more effective service delivery.


According to him, the efforts are yielding results since the police have recorded  more achievements and breakthroughs in crime prevention, detection and prosecution.


He said he has also improved the welfare of the police personnel across the country.


The police chief said the fight against treasury looters, insurgents , cattle rustling, farmers/ herders clashes had received a boost since he took over the mantle of leadership at the police headquarters.


He boasted that " over 70 percent of all Kidnapping, Armed Robbery and other heinous crimes recorded since my assumption of office have been resolved."


Idris also disclosed that several arms had been recovered from criminal elements across the country.


The police boss attributed the successes to the introduction of a Technical Intelligence unit and Tactical Response Teams headed by a Commissioner of Police in charge of IGP Monitoring Unit.


He said the introduction of the units in  Imo and Lagos in 2017 was to provide technical intelligence to police commands in South East and South Western parts of the country.


Idris said the commissioning of the intelligence platform in Kano was aimed at providing such technical surveillance to the North Western part of the country.


He said the intelligence platform would increase police efficiency in detecting and tackling crime in such areas.


The police boss said he planned to link all police commands in the country with COBWEB intelligence platforms as soon as funds were available.


He said they would help in tackling cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and insurgency within the country and appealed to Nigerians to patient with the police and the incumbent administration in its efforts to make the country safe for all.

In his remark, the Commissioner of Police in charge of IGP Monitoring Unit,  Abu Sani commended the IGP for finding time out of his tight scheduled to come and commission this all important project.

He also lauded the police boss for the initiative, saying, "the gesture would enhance professionalism, modern policing method policing method to meet international standard best practices.

Sani also appreciated the support and motivations in the area of welfare of officers and men of the force that has assisted in boosting their moral
