Further to the Press release from this Office early this morning on the above subject, where i mentioned that the Nigeria Police Force’s attention was drawn to the innuendos in the early hours of today, 24th July, 2018, that some Police personnel were seen surrounding the residence of the Senate President in Abuja; the Force categorically stated that there was no authorised deployment of Police personnel to besiege the residence of the Senate President or his deputy as reported in the media. The police personnel seen in pictures in the media were those in the convoy of the Senate President and others attached to him and his residence.

In addition to the early statement of the Nigeria Police Force mentioned above, the Force hereby wishes to reiterate that no police personnel was sent to besiege, blockade the residence of the President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Bukola Saraki.

It is also absolutely untrue that the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki was harassed, threatened or intimidated physically or otherwise by any Police personnel either from the Force Headquarters or any other Formation of the Force.

The Nigeria Police Force will not abdicate from its constitutional responsibilities of detection of crimes and criminalities, and will always treat crime as crime no matter who is involved. The Force remains focused and will not be distracted from carrying out a discrete and thorough investigation into the indictments of the Senate president, Sen. Bukola Saraki, from confessional statements of some of the Five (5) gang leaders arrested for their active participation in the Offa bank robbery and gruesome murder of more than 33 persons and snatching of 21 AK47 rifles on the 5th of April, 2018 by the gang leadersnamely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of THIRTY THREE (33) innocent persons. Bukola Saraki and the Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulfatah Ahmed.

These confessions were made before the media and the public on the 3rd of June, 2018. It is therefore, evidently clear that the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki has case to answer, and it is consequent upon this that the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki was invited to appear before the Investigation Team at Intelligence Response Team Office, Guzape Junction, Abuja today, 24thJuly, 2018 which he refused.

Ekiti 2018: IGP Idris commend personnel, other security agencies

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, has commended the entire police personnel and other security agencies deployed to Ekiti State for the July 14 governorship election.

A statement by the Force Spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood on Sunday in Abuja, said that Idris highly appreciated the high level commitment of the personnel.

Moshood said that the IGP further extolled the high level of professionalism, civility, politeness, firmness and unbiased conducts of all security agencies before, during and after the election.
The spokesman said that the force equally appreciated the law abiding attitude and peaceful conduct of the people of Ekiti and other stakeholders.

He commended the good disposition and spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by most of the political parties in the election

The IGP  equally appreciates the law abiding attitude and peaceful conduct of the good people of Ekiti State, the Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders in Ekiti State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Staff, Local and Foreign Election Monitors/Observers, Situation Room Election Observers/CSOs, other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Media and other critical stakeholders for a good working relationship with the security personnel deployed for the election.

As a lead security agency in election security in a democracy, the IGP commends the entire Police personnel deployed for the election for their personal sacrifice, collective patriotism and commitment in ensuring that the election was conducted in an atmosphere of peace devoid of any breach of public peace and security throughout the period of the election.

The IGP further stated that the impressive performance of the Police personnel to ensure law and order, and a successful election is a clear testimony of the capability of the Nigeria Police Force in its renewed commitment to continue to adhere to International Best Practices in the conduct of elections in the country now and in the future.

IGP Idris further said that the force would continue to sustain security successes recorded in governorship elections in Edo, Ondo, Anambra and Ekiti states.

We are not here to undermine the governor- DIG Habila

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, operations, Habila Joshak, while addressing newsmen on the conduct of the force in the forthcoming poll at Police headquarters, described the PDP’s walk as a rally that was not approved.

Joshak explained that due approval for the event was not obtained by the party from the Police, adding that the Police would not undermine the governor and any citizen of the state but that approval must be given before any political rally could hold.

“We are not here to usurp the authority of Governor Fayose. We are not here to rubbish him because he represents the people
“But we are not going to allow any unauthorized rally that can trigger violence in the state. You can see that the state is tensed up.

“As a law enforcement agency, we must be proactive and take actions that can prevent crisis rather than trying to quell it after it might have broken out,” he said.

Police to withdraw Fayose, Fayemi’s security
Joshak also said the security details of important personalities in Ekiti would be withdrawn on Saturday to add to the credibility of the election, adding that no party would be allowed to hold any political rally not approved by the police until the election was held.

Joshak said he would work with Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG), Mr. H.H. Karma and three other commissioners — Ali Janga , J.B. Kokumo and G.B. Umar , who will man each of the senatorial districts in the state.

He said they had contacted security details of Governor Fayose and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Kayode Fayemi and other top government officials to report at 6am at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti on Saturday.

“We won’t allow anybody to go to the polling booth with armed men. This is a breach of the Electoral Act.

“We have contacted them and they have to be here before election commences. This election must not be compromised. They will be documented and whoever defies this will be sanctioned, because they have been contacted,” he warned.

Joshak urged his men not to work for any political party, saying any police officer found exhibiting such will have himself to blame.
“Those who want to create posts where votes are going to be bought will be disappointed. We are not going to allow it. If you cast your votes, you can keep a distance and protect your votes, but if you snatch the ballot, we will cut off your hands, if you run with it, we will stop your legs.

“If you come out with masquerade on the day of election, we will get it arrested and unmask the man behind it. My men will be civil, so people are free to come out to vote. Nobody will be harassed, that is not part of our duties.
“Our duty is to secure not only the electoral materials but all the citizens. We are going to be professional and watchful, because we don’t want to be bedeviled with cases of hooliganism, ballot snatching and hate speeches before, during and after this election”, he said.
